8|08|2008: A Special Story about World Renowned Photojournalist Reza Deghati, and his promise to his young son.

Reza Deghati - On the Train from Paris to China
Editor's Note: I met Reza a few years ago in Paris through a common friend. Since then I have been in touch with him and follow his amazing work both as a photographer and humanitarian from the comfort of my home in Boston, while he is doing all the hard work, especially with his achievements with his Aina Organization in Afghanistan. Today I received an email from him with a link to a website and blog. The website had a new name that I wasn't familiar with and thought to myself that Reza must be having to much time on his hands. Doesn't he know how to rest? But when I visited the site, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed every aspect of it. The story is a dream-come-true for any child. Read the following story and follow the links.- Naveed Nour
The journey of a father and his son - From Beijing to Paris by train
This is the story of a promise given by a father to his son. Words the son would never forget. A dream he would keep alive, a plan he knew would someday be fulfilled.
It is the story of a boy who cried whenever his father, a renown photojournalist, would leave on one of his trips to distant places. Once, hoping that he could join him on his travels, the boy hid in his father’s suitcases.
One day his father said, “When you turn fifteen, we will leave together, just the two of us. We will travel far and explore the lives and cultures of other lands and their people. And we will seek to understand them, and to share with them.” Read more>
07|25|2008: A New Photography Gallery comes to Boston - LUMAS of Germany
Article and photographs by Naveed Nour
The day was one of the craziest in a week that was ravaged by thunderstorms and rains, yet a large number of photo enthusiasts in Boston weathered to storms and found their way to the grand opening of LUMAS Gallery on Newbury Street. LUMAS, which is headquartered in Germany, is growing rapidly around the world. Boston is their second location after New York City in the United States.
After the opening reception we asked Kelly Yount, the director of the Boston gallery, about the experience and expectations. She was pleasantly surprised about the turnout despite the weather conditions, and we laughed about the fact that if there was no torrential rain, where LUMAS would fit the additional guests, as the gallery was already filled with visitors. This made it actually hard to see all the interesting work on the walls. The crowd was totally engaged with the art work presented on display, while more work was to be found in hefty catalogs available to the guest on the lower level. The range of work was wide and would offer something for every taste.

Putting together this huge collection is the work of Julia Heinemann, the director of the gallery portfolio. Heinemann who resides in Berlin and works at the LUMAS headquarters, came to Boston to be part of opening ceremonies. She said that LUMAS is very aware of what their audience is looking for. This mostly includes photographs to which the buyer can personally relate. These are photographs that you want to wake up to every morning and bind with them emotionally. But at the same time LUMAS also feels responsible to bring work to their galleries that educate their patrons. LUMAS is currently representing over 120 photographers from around the world and this number is growing by 12-24 annually, hence adding to the diversity of their collection. All photographs are being sold in limited editions and allow everyone to become a collector, no matter what their budget might be. To learn more visit www.lumas.com. - NN

06|17|2008: At The Ocean’s Edge - A Photography Exhibit by Yoav Horesh
By Jason Landry, Art Institute of Boston MFA in Visual Arts candidate
YORK, MAINE –You can taste the salt-water of the Atlantic in the air. The weather was at least twenty degrees cooler near the coast. The tides are moving in and out down by the harbor, people are swimming in the ocean, dogs are kicking up sand as they chase Frisbees and novels are being read. Summer is upon us. New England happens to be a very popular vacation destination this time of year, and with the value of the Euro far exceeding the US Dollar, the influx of tourists this summer will be at peek levels. 05|29|2008: Naoki Honjo at Bernard Toale Gallery from May 14 to June 28 - Opening reception on June 6th
Boston – Naoki Honjo is showing his "Small Planet" series at the Bernard Toale Gallery. This is a very interesting collection and seeing the real work is a must for any photography enthusiast. Before visiting the Bernard Toale Gallery this week, I had never seen Honjo’s work before, which actually contributed to my excitement once I saw his photographs. If you are new to Honjo's world as well, the subjects of his photographs resemble miniature sets used in by architects as scale models for building sites, or scale models used in movie productions, which are so real and will fool anyone. Honjo’s scale models fooled me too, because they are "not" models and are pictures of real places. It took me almost 3 photographs to realize that these were real locations with real people. Once I came to this realization, I had to go back to the beginning and start over. Even then I didn't want to believe that these were real photographs, and it makes you wonder whether we are real, or maybe the toys of a higher being. I highly recommend this exhibit and guarantee that you won't be disappointed. For exhibit details please visit http://www.bernardtoalegallery.com. Opening reception will be held on June 6th.
