Justin Blinder
When the shutter opens, light passes through the lens of a camera, exposing the film, revealing the path the light has traveled. Light illuminates the paths ahead, and what paths we choose in life mold who we are. We make decisions based on where we envision these paths will lead us.
The intended direction of my life has always been on the path less traveled. Over the years, interfering elements have obscured the paths ahead, blurring their focus. Yet, looking through a lens has helped me navigate through these impediments, offering guidance and insight. These photos are a reflection on the paths traveled, and a preface to the paths ahead. They are delineations of a transcendent journey, introspective passages, paths that can only be traversed alone.
Biography
Justin was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1985, and grew up in the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia. His first photographic recollections originate from when he was 12 years old, experimenting with a pinhole camera made out of a Quaker Oats box. Enamored with the ability to render moments on a paper canvas, he decided to take an introductory photography course in high school. His subsequent photographic studies have been facilitated through books, friends, and personal experimentation.
Since his first steps into photography, Justin has been avidly observing the world around him and interactions in every day life. His fascinations with human interactions have directed his studies towards an Interactive Media Design degree at the New England Institute of Art, and he will be pursuing a degree in New Media Design, with a focus on Interactive Media, at Parsons the New School for Design this fall. Justin continues to perpetuate his photographic studies and endeavors in his spare time, while living in Brookline, Massachusetts.
